Fund Managers only | Decision Analysis in Venture Capital with Miriam Rivera, Managing Director and co-founder, Ulu Ventures:
Venture Capital fund managers are compensated largely based on their decision making process.  What is behind that process? How quantitatively driven and methodical is it? How is that process evolving given the current economic environment? Miriam Riviera, Partner of Ulu Ventures will share her fund’s philosophy and approach, which is rooted in Decision Analysis and also funding entrepreneurs of diverse backgrounds as a cornerstone of the investment thesis.  Ulu’s results speak volumes: Superior financial performance of previous funds, and significant proportion of portfolio led by female and minority CEOs.

Angel Investors only | Angel Investing in Challenging Markets with Trish Costello, Founder & CEO, Portfolia:

Angel investing is challenging in good markets; in challenging markets even more so.  For investors with active angel investments, and those still committed to making new investments, three fundamental questions need to be answered:

  1. How is your investment thesis changing, if at all?

  2. Does the current market require a more robust due diligence process?

  3. How to best support current investments?

Startup CEOs only | Strategic Communication with CEOs in Good Times and Bad with JD Schramm, Director, King Global Leadership Program & Knight-Hennessy Scholars, Stanford University:

While always important, it is urgent that CEOs communicate effectively in rapidly changing markets as we have now.  What type of communication, using what format, is appropriate for which audiences?
JD Schramm teaches communication at Stanford's Graduate School of Business and is the author of “Communicate with Mastery”.  He will lead an interactive workshop on strategic communication for CEOs of early stage companies.  Drawing on decades of experience working with leaders, JD will review fundamentals and allow participants to practice in a live setting, all with a focus on communicating during a crisis.
